Our guide to new music Christmas presents

With just one week until Christmas Day there’s probably more than a few of you out there struggling to find last minute gifts for your friends and loved ones.

So forget about the X-Factor single or the latest Michael Buble collection, why not let us help you with some music that’s actually half decent?

Here’s our guide to awesome new bands we’ve spoken to in the last few months that have some great new music available for you to treat someone special with this festive season.

Fort Hope – Armure

The superb Fort Hope released new EP Armure at the start of December and it’s probably their heaviest and best work to date. Get your copy of Armure here.

Check out our review and interview with lead singer and guitarist Jon Gaskin here, and the video for lead single from the EP Say No below.

Lightscape – For Present, For Past

One of my favourite discoveries in the past few months has been Norwich band Lightscape. They were our New Band of the Week back in October and I’m still finding it difficult to stop listening to them whenever I pop my headphones in.

Lead single from FPFP Running is a huge, totally infectious track that it’s near impossible to not sing along to.

And here’s a taster of the awesome Running:

War Waves – All That We Lack

Another of my favourite new bands is our very first New Band of the Week, Ipswich’s War Waves. The band offers up unique lyrics with a fun indie rock sound, of the ilk of Idlewild and Frightened Rabbit. This year they released their second album, which was a superb follow-up to their self-titled debut.

Read our interview with the band here and a review of All That We Lack here. And you can buy War Waves’ music here.

Black Orchid Empire – Archetype

This album is simply one of the best debut offerings you’re likely to hear. The London trio have the uncanny ability to blend melodic hooks with big fat dirty riffs, with the end result being a slew of catchy rock brilliance.

Archetype is available here, and check out our interview and review of the album here. To give you a taster, here’s a video for the fantastic single This City.

Hieroglyph – Ouroboros

If you fancy something completely different to anything else out there, then check out Hieroglyph’s debut album. It’s chocked full of huge metal riffs and this is a band that’s really pushing the boundaries with a whole host of intriguing experimentation and varying influences.

Get hold of Ouroboros here, and check out our interview with guitarist Sam Butterfield here.

SEASONS – What Goes Around

The Bedfordshire rockers are a firm favourite at GigRadar Towers. We attended the launch show for What Goes Around, their second EP, last month and we love their blend of pop-punk with metal and rock overtones.

Read our interview with guitarist Matt Turnbull here and add it to your Spotify here.

The Vigil – Save Our Souls

Bristol rockers The Vigil are a must listen for anyone that’s a fan of grungy rock and big guitar riffs. They released debut album Save Our Souls a few weeks ago, and it’s a hugely impressive introduction to this great little band.

Check out our interview with The Vigil and review of the album here.

So if you’re stuck for a late Christmas present, or just fancy checking out some awesome new bands, then go and give these bands some support!

Merry Christmas.
