Our recent trend of focusing on awesome female vocals brings us nicely onto one of our favourites, in London rockers Pretty Pistol. The garage punk quartet, our New Band of the Week back in May when they released their debut EP Bones, are back with a brand new single Cry Wolf.
Pretty Pistol’s trademark high-energy sound is once again on display in this short and sweet punk romp. It opens up with trademark raw shouts of “Cry wolf, cry wolf” from frontwoman Laura alongside a fast-paced guitar riff. The guitars drop down through the verse, with a meandering riff supporting shouty vocals then dives straight back into the heavier chorus. A bridge of building guitars follows, then flies into a final smash of the energetic chorus, which ends with big shouts of “cry cry cry.” It’s fast, raucous and bags of fun and energy. Check it out in the video below:
Laura tells us: “This feels like a big step forward for us, we went into the studio with John Mitchell (Enter Shikari, The Darkness, Architects) who helped us find our sound and bring out the best in us. Cry Wolf is a two minute preview of whats coming next.
The band has been busy writing material for a new EP as well as gigging, including supporting Penetration at their 40th anniversary show at Islington Academy. They also recently played a London gig supporting the mighty Crazy Town, on which Laura told us: “It was fun, and not something that we saw coming. They definitely live up to their name – and we learnt a lot from supporting a band like that.”
They play at Tamesis Dock in London on 28 November then close out the year with a single launch party at The Black Heart in Camden on 6 December, with tickets available here. They’ll then be back in the studio to complete their upcoming EP. Laura adds: “We’ll have a new single out in the new year and we’d like to start getting out of London, so a UK tour would be nice. We’ll keep you posted.”
