Single Review: Belarus rockers Weesp show off their heavy side with ‘Not Over’

Belarussian rockers Weesp first caught our attention when we learned they first formed back in 2008 despite not being able to play music. They’ve since formed an exciting combination of musical styles, from rock and metal through to electro and indie, which is best portrayed by releasing a rock cover of The Prodigy’s Omen.

As a result, we learnt to expect the unexpected from the Minsk rockers. And that’s the case with new single Not Over, the second single from second album Black Sails, which will be released later this month.

The new track shows the heavier side of the band, presenting a powerful metal sound that exudes darkness and chaos with heavy vocals, cool pulsating synth sounds and big guitar riffs.

Check it out in the video below, which was filmed during summer festivals and their tour of eastern Europe last year.

On the new track, the band tell us: “Not Over is about the endless struggle with darkness. With the darkness that lives inside each of us. And in the end it’s about accepting that darkness, coexisting with it, controlling it, making friends with it. That is what gives us strength not to get crazy in that world. That is what makes us black sails.

It promises exciting things for the new album, in addition to previous single Illumination, which begins slowly but grows into a big, powerful, almost anthemic rock track.

You can follow Weesp on Facebook and Twitter, and check out their music on Spotify and YouTube.
