Introducing: Indonesian punk rockers Ringgo 5

All the way from Indonesia we’re being taken on a journey back to the sounds of early 2000s alternative rock by Jakarta rockers Ringgo 5.

The quintet began with schoolfriends Nabil Pawaka (vocals), Rhein Michael and Rishad Marciano (guitars), Robert Matthew (bass), who added drummer Getar Jiwa Adita from a rival band.

Ringgo 5 play in Southampton tomorrow night (Tuesday 22 May), bringing an end to their first ever tour of the UK, which saw gigs in Brighton and London over the weekend. They then play in the Netherlands later this week at Tong Tong Podium in The Hague on Friday (25 May).

So, if you’re in the area tomorrow or happen to be in Holland next week, the band tell us you should expect: “Fresh pop-rock sounds from Indonesia. We PROMISE to give you a good time and you should get ready to feel the BEST HEARTBREAK because we are the best-underrated band in Indonesia.

“We love making music. Do what you love, and love what you do. Therefore, you will love your job.”

The band released their debut album Emotion, which is chocked full of classic pop-punk meets alt-rock. This is typified by its second track, the catchy, high octane Best Heartbreak. Check it out in the video below:

As this is our first band from Indonesia, we asked Nabil to give us some insight into the country’s music scene: “There are lots and lots of young talented artists in Indonesia. There are various genres here, including Punk, Rock, Heavy Metal to Jazz and pop genres. But most people in Indonesia listens to pop songs with acoustic guitar. Like Ed Sheeran.” Those heathens.

You can see Ringgo 5 play at Joiners Arms in Southampton tomorrow night (22 May), and tickets are available here.

You can follow Ringgo 5 on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, and check out their music on Spotify and YouTube.
