Off the top of your head, how many good German rock bands can you think of? Yeah, other than Rammstein we were stumped and had to consult Google to help us out – and even it struggled. However, the good news is that Berlin’s DinoSound are here to change all of that.
The band – Florin Kerber (vocals and guitar), Daniel Martens (guitar), Janine Semmler (bass) and Florian Halenz (drums) – shared their track Made Of, which comes from the 2018 album Claudia, which gives us an insight into the catchy nature of this exciting band.
The track opens up with stabbing guitars then a funky little looping lick as drums kick in. Engaging vocals take over and flow into a catchy chorus “I know you wanna be made of, You do wanna be made of” with echoey backing vocals underneath. There’s a brief bass solo before the looping lick kicks back in and leads into another fun verse, then another quick chorus, before flying into a laid-back guitar solo then a more shreddy solo. Check it out in the video below – and keep an eye out for Florin’s impressive leap into a shopping trolley.
We had a chat with the band to find out more about them and their imminent plans to go full-time with their music, read on here:
GR: Who are DinoSound? And where are you from?
DS: “We are a 4 piece band from Berlin who love to play and write rock music.”
GR: You just released Made Of – love the video! What should people be expecting from the song?
DS: “The song is the first release off our debut album Claudia, which is completely self-produced with organic instruments. We were pissed about modern songwriting in modern rock music. Everything seems to be a copy of a copy. Nobody is working on their own creativity. So this song is a call to be more innovative, like back in the days.”
GR: How would you describe your sound to people that haven’t listened to you yet?
DS: “We create catchy rock songs without being one dimensional. Our sound is pretty raw and not perfect. Cause people are not perfect. And that should be the spirit of rock’n’roll in our opinion.”
GR: What influences you to write music? Any key themes or topics that you write about?
DS: “Most of the time we write about social desires, love and friendship. Berlin creates a wealth of inspirational input to write lyrics and express ourselves.”
GR: Which bands/musicians are/have been your strongest musical influences?
DS: “Bands that developed themselves over the years. We all are into music since we were kids and grew up with MTV. That is why we have different backgrounds. Everything between Misfits and ABBA is influencing us!”
GR: What have you got coming up through the rest of 2019?
DS: “We are playing a few festivals in Germany. The rest of the time we are preparing for 2020: We are about to quit our jobs to give the idea of being full-time musicians a chance. We have big visions and ideas which will hopefully change peoples’ view on modern rock music. And you can expect a concept album in 2020.”
GR: Anything else you’d like people to know about you/your music?
DS: “Hopefully we can inspire people to start making music. Everybody should learn and play an instrument because it’s one of the most beautiful things in life.”
