Ready for some savagely heavy yet intriguingly melodic German metal? Of course you are! Emerging from the Ruhr area in Western Germany is brand new sextet All Miles Gone, who combine heavy male vocals and clean female vocals alongside a backdrop of brutal guitars and atmospheric melodies.
The melodic hardcore / metalcore six-piece of Victoria (clean vocals), Dominik (screamed vocals), Tobias (guitar and backing vocals), Bene (guitar), Max (bass and backing vocals) and Alex (drums) hail from Gelsenkirchen, Duisburg and Essen. And they’ve honed an intriguingly heavy yet melodic sound.
The band released debut single Tortured Soul in May, which gives us a tantalising introduction to this sound. It opens up with a big guitar lick then huge screamed vocals over booming guitars in a seriously heavy opening.
It drops into Victoria’s lighter vocals supported by lively guitars and pounding drums in an energetic opening verse. Cool stabs of low-tuned guitar jump in and give way to a big atmospheric, heavy chorus.
A heavier second verse of intense guitars and drums with distant screams under Victoria’s big clean vocals flows into a second lively chorus. That suddenly drops into a light, laid-back section of drawn-out guitars, then Victoria’s vocals take over alongside increasingly intensifying guitars to bring the track to an end. Give it a listen below:

GR: Who are All Miles Gone? What’s the backstory?
TG: “All Miles Gone is a six-piece Melodic Hardcore/ Metalcore band from Gelsenkirchen, Germany. The name stands for all the things you had to go through and for all the experiences one has made in life as a person.
“At first the band only consisted of Victoria (clean vocals), Alexander (drums), Benedict (guitar) and Nils (former guitarist). They knew each other from a music school in Gelsenkirchen. When they were looking for a bassist they asked me if I wanted to join the band. Alexander and Benedict knew me for quite some time and knew that I could play guitar and bass.
“In the beginning, we only played some cover songs so that we could learn to know each other better. There were no gigs played at all at this time.
After a while, we started to write our own music and it was clear that our music should get heavier than the songs we covered at first and we decided to search for a guy who was able to do guttural vocals.
“After some weeks of searching for a second vocalist we came across Dominik through the internet. When we heard his vocals we knew that he was the right guy for his. Just a few weeks before Dominik actually joined the band our former guitarist Nils had to leave the band unfortunately because he could not afford the time for the band anymore.
“So I decided to be the second guitarist from then on. Again we did not have a bassist. We searched in the internet again and after some time Max got in touch with us. He rehearsed with us a few times before we decided that he would be part of the band. We were complete from that day on and started to write more and more own music.
“On March 2018 we finally played our first show ever and from that on we were looking for more possibilities to play live.”
GR: You released Tortured Soul. What should people be expecting from the song? What inspired you to write it?
TG: “The very beginning of the songwriting was kind of hard for us. Starting points of our songs were and still are similar experiences and common feelings. Our single Tortured Soul is a good example for the process of writing. The basis for the lyrics was a conversation. We recognized that we are not alone with certain emotions and Tortured Soul is the attempt to put these feelings into words.
“There was a short period when the lyrics were already written, but the perfect instrumentals were still missing. But as we listened to the present instrumentals for the first time, we knew: That’s it! We don’t want people to expect that much, just listen to our music and to build their own opinion to it.”
GR: How would you describe your sound to people that haven’t listened to you yet?
TG: “Our music consists of heavy riffs, hard-hitting drums and aggressive vocals but also melancholy parts with clean vocals and choruses to sing along to. The mixture of female clean vocals and heavy guttural vocals gives a very unique sound to our songs. We also have a ballad called Fade Away in our setlist right now, which differs quite a lot from the other songs.”
GR: What influences you to write music? Any key themes or topics that you write about?
TG: On the one hand we want people think more about certain topics. We often write about socially critical themes like for example missing civil courage. On the other, we want to share our personal experiences in life with listeners, like lost love, a messed up childhood or other private issues. There will always be people who have had similar experiences in life.”
GR: Which bands/musicians are/have been your strongest musical influences?
TG: “Our biggest influences are bands like Stick To Your Guns, Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!, The Ghost Inside, Polaris, Issues, Wage War, A Day To Remember, Alexisonfire, Polaris and many more. Of course all our personal preferences differ. Otherwise it would get pretty boring after a while.
GR: What have you got coming up for the rest of 2019 and into 2020?
TG: “For the rest of 2019 there is actually not that much planned anymore. Maybe some gigs are still coming but as we will go to the studio in Febuary 2020 to record our first EP we will concentrate more on songwriting for the next months.
“For 2020 there is much more planned already. We will release our first EP and we are organising some shows with the guys in Avalanche from Essen at the time. You should definitely check them out as well!”
GR: Anything else you’d like people to know about you/your music?
TG: “If you like Tortured Soul, follow us on Facebook/Instagram to stay tuned for the upcoming EP and other stuff. We can’t wait to share more of our music with you. And of course, thank you to everyone who came out to our shows and who listened to Tortured Soul already.
