The engaging sound of New York hard rock solo artist Alyxx is the perfect release for the hard times we find ourselves in. You’ll want to crank the volume up and belt it out loud along with her powerful vocals.
The Rockland County-based singer began her solo project in 2017, with Alyxx collaborating with guitarist Frank Bohr, then adding Zaki Ali on drums. She’s since released a debut EP followed by a few singles, including latest track My Last Goodbye, which was released in February.
The track begins with drawn-out guitars over eerie synth sounds and rolling drums, then little flurries of guitar, which feed into a lively opening verse. A huge drum roll feed into a big catchy chorus with Alyxx’s singalong vocals supported by huge pounding drums, and a cheeky key change with the big cry of “This is my last goodbye.”
A quick guitar solo jumps in and feeds into a second verse, which flows into a second chorus that extends into more vocals over a little guitar lick and jumps straight into another chorus. More drawn-out vocals are supported by piercing guitars, then a big atmospheric section of layered vocals and guitars bring the track to an end.
On the track, Alyxx tells us: “My Last Goodbye was inspired by my frustrations witnessing myself and friends stuck in toxic relationships. We’ve all experienced that one way or another, whether it was a romantic relationship, a friendship or even drugs and alcohol. The song is a reminder that you have the power to take back control of your life and that you deserve to be happy. Life’s too short to be miserable.” Check it out below:
On My Own, Alyxx’s opening track to her debut EP showcases the heavier edge to her music. An atmospheric intro builds up to a chorus dominated by Alyxx’s powerful vocals supported by booming guitar chords. Check it out below:
While This War, her first single following the EP offers up more of the same engaging rocky goodness, with more of the keyboards creeping in. Check it out in the video below:
Alyxx’s sound has been inspired by the likes of Evanescence, Breaking Benjamin, Halestorm and Three Days Grace. And on her musical inspiration, she explains: “I am influenced and inspired by life experiences. Either ones I’ve personally experienced or ones I’ve witnessed happening to those close to me.
“A common theme throughout my music is control and strength. I always try to resolve all my songs with some sort of positivity, even with dark situations. I like to remind myself and those listening, that you can control your happiness.”
All things being well, we can expect plenty more to come from Alyxx shortly. As she tells us: “I have a lot of cool things coming up in 2020. I’m most excited for the Blue Ridge Rock Festival because it will be my first festival. I’m also planning on releasing another single in the next few months. All show and music announcements will be available on my website!”
And she adds: “My music comes from a very real and honest place. I write about personal experiences and experiences that are close to me. I think people will connect with my music because it’s about getting through the struggles of life and reminding people that you have the power to take control of your life and be happy.”
