Over the years, we’ve taken delight in covering bands from all over the world. But I don’t think I ever thought we’d be bringing you a thrash band from the Indian Ocean. Yet that’s exactly what we’re doing with the exciting old-school sound of Lomor, who hail from Réunion Island, a French overseas department near Madagascar and Mauritius.
French band Black Drop offer up deliciously fuzzy grunge melodies that offer a throwback to the 90s with strong alternative, stoner and progressive influences.
French band Banquise offer up a delicious fusion of metalcore energy and emotive melodies packed with thought-provoking lyrics that they describe as “fragility, power and resilience.”
Our third French band in a week sees us discover the alternative metal sound of Ice Chemicals. The Parisian collective have honed a style that plays with elements of metalcore, melodeath and neo metal and utilises dual male and female vocals.
French band The Dead Krazukies offer up a hugely enjoyable nod to 90s skate punk with metal and hardcore edges that they summarise as “energetic, dramatic and catchy” – and definitely not emo.
French band Ways. offer up an engaging yet hard-hitting sound fusing elements of alternative metal, metalcore and post-hardcore and they summarise as “powerful, dynamic and melodic.”
Emerging from the deep south of France is the engaging post-hardcore meets metalcore sound of The Ghost I See, who describe their music as “catchy, open and powerful.”
French band Gate Of Mind have honed a deliciously intense but oddly catchy old-school groovy thrash hardcore sound that they unusually describe as “cuddles, kisses, love.”
If there was one genre of music you never thought you’d be jigging along to in delight, black metal would probably be pretty high on the list. But prepare to change all that thanks to French duo Depressive Witches.
French heavy space blues band Last Quarter fuse elements of classic rock, blues and progressive rock in a funky, groovy sound they describe as “epic, powerful and psychedelic.
Thankfully, the powerful, atmospheric progressive rock and metal sound of Wyvern is far more entertaining than my local radio station of the same name.
